Yup, this is what I do. Introduction.
My name is Glencairn, most people call me Glenny. I decided to go back to school 2 years ago when I was working with at-risk youth out in the desert. I spent my days with them working out the problems they faced back home and through that process I realized I could no longer hold onto the beliefs that were holding me back either. You tell people what they are capable of enough, and you start to believe it for yourself.I'm a pre-med student and plan on getting my doctorate in physical therapy, somewhere warmer than here I hope. I am fascinated by the human beings ability to heal, both physically and mentally. For a job I work at the Boise Co-Op. For fun, I am a volunteer EMT for Kuna Fire and Rescue. My goal is to get on somewhere as a fire fighter, and Kuna is a good place to get my foot in the door. Not to mention it's a rad agency! I enjoy doing things that are "hero" oriented. Well, as long as there's an element of excitement anyway. Meaning, I enjoy doing things that are of use and helpful to others. I live with my boyfriend, Griff, who is amazing, our cat, Freya, and our dog, Bodie. He is a great dog who was named after Patrick swayze's character in PointBreak. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
With all that said, the main reason I want to work with this service agency is because it is an opportunity to work with folks who are taking there own lives seriously and working towards a goal to better their own lives even if they come from a place with tough obstacles. They are willing to take advantage of an opportunity.
Hi Glenny:
ReplyDeleteThere're a lot of interesting things I could respond to in your post! First, I think it's amazing that you used to work with at-risk youth: this gives you a valuable perspective, and I'll be curious to see how your experience with the HEP program is similar too/differant than this. On a more personal note, I live a few blocks from the co-op and I love the place!
I'm looking forward to a busy and productive semester. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns going forward.
