Joshua's Tab

A quick intro...

My name is Joshua Miller and I'm a Idaho native. Growing up in Boise, and living here all my life has giving me a great love for the outdoors and staying active. I'm an avid bicyclist (may have a broken hand after last night though), and love being outside on my bike.
Last spring I made the decision to return to school and pursue a degree in Education. I had kicked around the idea of coming back to BSU for quite a while. I graduated from BSU my first time in 2007 with a AAS in Marketing/Management. Then between 2007-2010 I moved from job-to-job trying to figure out where I wanted to end up. It became evident very quickly I wasn't happy with what I was doing. I never found a profession that satisfied my passions or drive in life. My work left me feeling somewhat empty, so I decided to throw all my old plans aside and do some "soul-searching" and really break down where I wanted to go in life.
Trying to figure out my goals, values and passions in life as a whole was fairly easy, translating those same elements into a career and an education proved to be more challenging. I ended up working in a call center for Qwest for the better part of a year while breaking down my next destination. Ultimately what I  found out was more about who I am as an individual and learned tons about interacting with people. Working in a call center can be an enlightening job if you keep an open mind. I had many people call in each day just to yell at me, but it wasn't all bad. All together I grew from the experience and it helped me solidify my desire to help people and to teach.
Growing up I was always successful in school, with very little effort. I have a natural desire and ability to learn and to do so quickly. Being an out going and open person, I have always been one to share my experiences and knowledge happily, as my mom has always said I'm a "bounty of  useless knowledge."
All in all from my personality traits, desire to learn and abilities to share my knowledge I decided to returen to school and pursue a Bachelors degree in Econ, Social Studies Secondary Education, I couldn't leave the business world too far behind.
So there we have it, a quick snap shot of who I am and what I'm doing. And if you're ever looking for a buddy to ride bikes with don't hesitate to ask me along!

  1. Hi Joshua:

It's good to have you in the course. I used to work in a call-center as well, and I agree it can be an eye-opening and an educational experience. Studying Econ, Social Studies Secondary Education, sounds like a rewarding path. I look forward to working with you this semester.
